Factors in seminal plasma of bulls that affect the viability and motility of spermatozoa 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Bound sialic acids on rat spermatozoa were assayed by oxidation with 1 mM-NaIO4 at 0 degree C, liberating C-9 as formaldehyde which was further quantitated using 3-methyl-2-benzothiazolinone. The mean +/- s.d. (n = 20) content of bound sialic acids of spermatozoa from the caput and cauda epididymidis was 50.9 +/- 8.0 and 25.2 +/- 3.8 nmol/10(8) spermatozoa respectively. About 85% of the former and 75% of the latter could be extracted by 1% Triton X-100 and 2 mM-dithiothreitol. About 70% of the former and 20% of the latter were released by neuraminidase from Vibrio cholerae. About 40% of the former and 30% of the latter were sensitive to trypsin. During sperm maturation, the decrease in the total bound sialic acids was due to the decrease in the neuraminidase-sensitive but not the neuraminidase-resistant sialic acids. 相似文献

An animal model was used to assess the effects of orally administered aqueous extract from two commercial health supplement
ingredients; First Leaf (FL; composed of blackcurrant extract powder, lactoferrin and lutein and is developed by the Four
Leaf Japan Co. Ltd, Japan) and Cassis Anthomix 30 (CAM30; blackcurrant extract powder which is developed by Just the Berries
Ltd, New Zealand) on the proliferation of lactobacilli and bifidobacterial species and some undesirable bacteria in the caeca
of rats. Gavaging rats with CAM30, FL or inulin three times weekly for 4 weeks resulted in a significant increase in the numbers
of bifidobacteria and/or lactobacilli and a significant decrease in the numbers of bacteroides and clostridia. Moreover, rats
gavaged with FL, CAM30 and inulin showed 31.5, 18 and 15% reduction in the activity of β-glucuronidase and 26, 30.4 and 18% increment in the activity of β-glucosidase when compared to the control group gavaged
with water, respectively. These benefits may make these products good candidates as prebiotic agents. In conclusion, this

Methylglyoxal in New Zealand manuka honey has been shown to originate from dihydroxyacetone, which is present in the nectar of manuka flowers in varying amounts. Manuka honey, which was freshly produced by bees, contained low levels of methylglyoxal and high levels of dihydroxyacetone. Storage of these honeys at 37 °C led to a decrease in the dihydroxyacetone content and a related increase in methylglyoxal. Addition of dihydroxyacetone to clover honey followed by incubation resulted in methylglyoxal levels similar to those found in manuka honey.
